Well. Another year has come and g-blah, blah, blah…I spent New Year’s Eve over at Marco’s house (that’s Edward’s bro) with his family, Mariano and his family, Jay and Leo. Edward’s clan was spending time with his wife’s family in Mexico so they had their U.S. celebration on Saturday (which I totally missed–thanks, Andi! :))
Whilst calling up peeps to wish them a good one, I–in a desperate move of lonesomness–called up Vickie. Turns out she’s seeing someone else now: a friend of my family since freaking forever-ness. I’m like: “Wha?! What’s? What the?! How? When?! Does he know that I was…?! He does! Wha?!” Or something like that. I was mad as hell, of course, but whatever. New Year’s with the friends made me forget aaaaaaall about ol’ what’s-her-face. Until of course the next time I do a commercial shoot at that same store she works at. :)
Meanwhile, TODAY IS THE DAY that I’m going to start doin’ my own 365 Photo A Day thingie! Yay! Go me! I even mentioned it here on the Strobist Flickr Pool where I said this:
Hi. I’m Jason R. Johnston and I hail from San Juan, TX USA.
I blame Star Wars for interesting me in the art of painting with light. Had I never seen that movie I may have become a succesful lawyer or doctor and would have led a dreadful life never knowing the pleasures of photography.
After graduating high school with a decent idea of darkroom techniques, Pentax K-1000s and a sloppy-at-best knowledge of technical camerwork, I bought my first SLR, the Canon Rebel. It was my first purchase at Best Buy and my first purchase with a credit card, DiscoverCard, way back in 1997. :-)
Since then, the thrill had come and gone until I became interested in digital photography sometime in 2001 and bought a Canon Powershot G3. Then it was the Digital Rebel and now my 20D. I remain self-taught in photography, gaining much of my knowledge and vocabulary from books and websites. And then, on day, I discovered the most important cache of photo-related information to date.
I don’t exactly remember how I stumbled upon Strobist.com, but I know I instantly bookmarked it and it has since been one of my most visited sites as I check it every day for new content.
I made the cash-spending jump into Strobist territory only two months ago, yet it has been the most productive learning period I have ever experienced as a photographer.
Now, on the cusp of a new year, I no longer venture into the world without my camera and off-camera SB-28 strobe. To aid in honing my skills, I’ve even decided to begin my own photo-a-day thing here on Flickr starting, oh, now! With rules, even…Strobist-related rules.
Thank you David, not only for your knowledge but also for the grace with which you enlighten us with it. I will forever be in your debt.
Aaall givin’ props where props is due. So anyway, kids…here’s my first POTD:
