Well, I saw Indiana Jones on Memorial Day and it was terrific, big, stupid fun! I would imagine fans of the series would get much more out of it than anyone else, including people who just watched the first three movies to catch up. I am a fan. I even dressed as Indy for Halloween two years ago. I remember lines of dialogue, pacing and delivery. I remember music cues, edits and stage blocking. The new Star Wars movies tried to be history. This? This IS history. Indiana Jones…all the way. Go see it!

You’re gonna hate me for this, but I really did not like it. I know the legend of the Crystal Skull, but yeah it was a little too spacey for my liking. In the theater I was in, people booed at the ending. I think this is a movie I’m going to have to watch again before fully deciding if I like it or not…

It WAS spacey. But I rate movies after 2000 on a totally different scale. Basically, the new scale says that movies made after 2000 are generally rated only up to half of a 10 star scale. So the BEST movie made after 2000, though it rates at the top of the scale, is only half as good a rating as the BEST movie of 1999.

There are exceptions, such as motion pictures that are made with the same class and love that old movies were. “No Country for Old Men” is a good example. Clearly this film deserves to be rated on the old scale because it could absolutely hold up to older films.

On the flips side, any movie made by Michael Bay has only gotten as high as 5 on any 10 star scale. That means his new movies only get like 2s and 3s. Transformers was a solid 5, though. And that’s because I hated it. But it WAS the best Michael Bay movie since Armageddon.

In other words, even though Indy IV hits a solid 5 out of 5 on the new scale, on the old scale (compared to the original three), it’s only half as good at 5 out of 10 stars. Pretty bad according to the old scale. And that’s because the other three got 10, 10 and 9 stars, respectively.
