The following is a music video for “Driving This Road Until Death Sets You Free”, a song by the French duo of Etienne Jaumet and Cosmic Neman called Zombie Zombie. Directed by Simon Gesrel and Xavier Ehretsmann, the music video pays homage to John Carpenter’s The Thing as reenacted by G.I. Joes in stop-motion.

Okee dokee, I’m insane. And here’s why:
Well, I finally did it. I finally submitted my application to Apple for consideration of inclusion as a content provider in the iTunes Store today. They say it’ll take a few weeks before they get to it. I also registered my name as a domain name which points directly to my music page on this site. I don’t really know what I’m getting into right now, but if all goes well, I’ll not only be submitting my music, but my independent films, as well. It’s nice completely owning my own material.
I have a giant, gargantuan, massive, immense crush on former American Idol contestant Kellie Pickler. It started when she performed the Righteous Brothers song “Unchained Melody” on the fifth season of American Idol. Kellie said that she loved the song because it was in the movie Ghost, which she loves, but was sad because she doesn’t “have anyone to play pottery with.” I rose my hand and said, quite sincerely, “I’ll play pottery with you, Kellie.”
Then one day I saw her on “Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?”, taking the infamous Budapest question with stride and, I don’t know, I just wanted to hold her. So, basically, I want to cuddle up with Kellie Pickler. Maybe take her to a movie, have dinner, I don’t know. I know she’s into helping charities, too, which is nice. She seems like a real sweetheart and I’d love to get to know her.
I even love her name. Not only is her name one of my favorites, but the spelling of her name is my favorite version; i.e. “Kellie” vs “Kelly”.
The only downside I can think of is that she’s a little bit country, and I’m a little bit rock and roll. Oh well. Like another song says: opposites attract.
Maybe Ms. Pickler will Google herself one day and find this post and, I don’t know, shoot me an e-mail. I think I’d like that. :)
Way back in 2005 I created a music album full of little tunes I through together in Apple Soundtrack. Revisiting the store where I kept it I was kinda amazed at how nice some of the tunes sounded. I called it “In Your Face And Out of Time” and all except three songs were made completely using loops in Soundtrack.
The other three songs were recorded onto a little Yamaha keyboard (one of them even uses backing from one of the keyboard’s song styles). It’s kind of a neat little album, and I encourage you to click here and check it out if you’re interested in indie electronica. Your purchase will go toward the Keep Jason Blogging Fund. :)
Covering a local event I saw this very pretty young woman and decided to do an impromptu model shoot with her. I opened the window blinds, mounted the portrait lens, and directed her into what I thought was a wistful, elegant pose.
She responded well and, after about four snaps, I believe I got the image I was looking for. I handed her my card and invited her to visit my website if she’d like to do more modeling. I hope she does because I think this photo turned out wonderfully.
Last night I was shooting photos for the rock station and their local lalapalooza, Bandtango in Edinburg. The event started in the afternoon but I got there at about 6pm, which was perfect timing to capture the headliners: Quiet Riot, Slaughter, Vince Neil and Chubby freaking Checker.
I took something between 1000 and 1400 pictures. I’m not sure because I haven’t had time to go through them yet. By the time we got to the final act with Vince Neil the sky opened up and down came the rain. My equipment was getting drenched but I shot through it, anyway. I need to clean the gear when I get home tonight. I wasn’t really worried about the L’s, but the 20D wasn’t really built for that kind of abuse. Fortunately, everything’s ok and I got some sweet pictures out of it. I’ll be posting a link to them soon.
I just want to say that I really, really like singer-songwriter Noëlle Hampton. There was this short film back in 2002 called bigLove which she served as composer. Big Love, directed by Leaf Garret (Donatello from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), was the first movie to be completely shot using the new Sony CineAlta HD camera whose later model was used to shoot Star Wars Episode II.
Anyway, she does this song for the movie called “Here On The Ground,” a swinging, swaying love ballad which gets me all kinds of teary-eyed when I hear it. It’s also available on her 5 For The Road album.
Sure she’s country, sure she’s a little bluegrass. But Noëlle Hampton also has that west coast slide thing going for her which I enjoy (thank you, Beck). Her website hasn’t been updated since 2005 is getting a face lift, but it looks as though she relocated to Austin. I might have to track her down and do a photo shoot with her or something. In fact, if I were to get married anytime soon, I’d hire her to cover the reception.
She’s good…and not bad on the eyes, either. Check her out.
One of my favorite animated movies, second only to The Lion King, is The Brave Little Toaster. An independently produced film and released by Disney, The Brave Little Toaster is the story of five electronic appliances who buddy up to find their long lost Master, a young boy who has since grown up and on his way to college. It’s an adult story with themes of death, faith and friendship, but the movie isn’t dark enough to not be accessible for children.
I love this movie and I recently pulled out the glorious David Newman soundtrack for the film and, listening to it now, I can’t help but be teary-eyed. I was always a softy, but this movie affects me in a few places; particularly when it pontificates on loneliness and death. I originally saw the movie when I was a child and there’s a scene with a flower that makes me weep like I’m that same age to this day. The “End Title” and “City of Lights” themes also get to me.
It also doesn’t help that Summer, my girlfriend, hasn’t been able to contact me. I’ve been pretty depressed this week and easy to tear for obvious reasons. I miss her.

Oh let the sun beat down upon my face, stars to fill my dream
I am a traveler of both time and space, to be where I have been
To sit with elders of the gentle race, this world has seldom seen
They talk of days for which they sit and wait and all will be revealed
Talk and song from tongues of lilting grace, whose sounds caress my ear
But not a word I heard could I relate, the story was quite clear
Oh, oh.
Oh, I been flying… mama, there ain’t no denyin’
I’ve been flying, ain’t no denyin’, no denyin’
All I see turns to brown, as the sun burns the ground
And my eyes fill with sand, as I scan this wasted land
Trying to find, trying to find where I’ve been.
Oh, pilot of the storm who leaves no trace, like thoughts inside a dream
Heed the path that led me to that place, yellow desert stream
My Shangri-La beneath the summer moon, I will return again
Sure as the dust that floats high in June, when movin’ through Kashmir.
Oh, father of the four winds, fill my sails, across the sea of years
With no provision but an open face, along the straits of fear
Ohh.
When I’m on, when I’m on my way, yeah
When I see, when I see the way, you stay-yeah
Ooh, yeah-yeah, ooh, yeah-yeah, when I’m down…
Ooh, yeah-yeah, ooh, yeah-yeah, well I’m down, so down
Ooh, my baby, oooh, my baby, let me take you there
Let me take you there. Let me take you there
