I made a sweet promo for the local FOX affiliate I work for. FOX Network supplied her affiliates with slow motion footage of the Giants and Patriots from NFL Films. I used the big orchestral version of the NFL On FOX theme and the speed-up and slow-down style of editing that you may recognize from movies like 300. I also used a few seconds of footage from a pre-edited NFL on FOX sales presentation, minus voice and music. This is where I got the sound effects. I wrote the script and voice over artist Pat Garrett read the copy. This is the final product that aired. Trust me, I really am this good. And since I typically favor the underdog: Go Giants!

This is a time lapse video of me shooting model Marla in my living room studio. The song is “Little Bird” by Annie Lennox. Shot with my little Canon PowerShot SD1000. The footage is an entire hour sped up about 200%.

The day before the 2007 Apple Keynote presentation and frustrated with my cell phone, I lamented at how there was not a way to quickly go through voice mail without having to listen to every one of them. The next day, Steve Jobs presented iPhone.

The day before the 2008 Apple Keynote presentation and I have activated my brand new iPhone. Pleased as I was, I couldn’t help but think that it would be cool if I could make Google my home page and see the lyrics I had attached to karaoke music.

This evening I watched Steve Jobs present the new update for iPhone (on my iPhone) which does all of that, as well as present a GPS-like function that would have greatly served me last week when I was lost looking for a potential wedding client in Harlingen and had neither an iPhone or the update. The customizable home page and web clips functions will also serve me greatly and make using my iPhone even more efficient. Steve Jobs said thank you for helping make Apple rich. And I said thank you for making good product. It’s like I say to people who ask me why I prefer Apple: “It just works.”

Apple iPhoneWell, I gots me an Apple iPhone today. Went to the AT&T Store to get a pre-approval credit check, I cleared and so I bought the iPhone right there. Got a little leather clip-on pouch for it, too. Basically, I’m waiting for my Sprint PCS service to end on Monday, then I can simply activate my new iPhone and AT&T wireless service.

When they asked me if I wanted to buy the iPhone at the time, I decided to check online to make sure I had the fundage. I certainly would have on the 15th, pay day. So I decided to do a direct deposit advance to ensure I had a buffer. I do and now I have a new iPhone that I won’t be able to use until at least Monday. No matter, the Cowboys are in the play-offs tomorrow and it’s followed by a brand new Family Guy. I also met with a client this morning and they want to hire me for their upcoming wedding in August.

I also found out yesterday that a friend is having a birthday party for his girlfriend’s daughter and he wanted to hire me to shoot it. So I’m having a pretty decent weekend so far. Now, if only I had a girlfriend (then I wouldn’t have the money to buy an iPhone). Hmm…

Well, it’s 2008. Which brings us all one step closer to the fourth Indiana Jones movie. Cheers!

12:30AM-ish — Spent up until around 3am on the air with Mike Quinn, Stryker and Jorge as we had a great big rock and roll New Year’s morning party on Q94.5 The Rock Station. We wound up doing skits, answering listeners’ calls on the air and generally engaging in Tom Foolery. We spent the last hour and change playing a non-stop block of Metallica. Afterward we relaxed at Whataburger and mused on how nice drunk rockers are.

6PM-ish — I decided I wanted a little point and shoot camera for day-to-day shooting; something that I could hold in one hand, store in my pocket and have a decent enough image whilst not attempting to rival my SLR rig.

Being a devout Canonite I was tempted to buy the new PowerShot A720 IS. The local Circuit City did not carry it in stock, no matter how much their website swore it was.

365 2008, Day 001, "New Camera!"

Me playing with the new pocket camera.

But I decided not to leave empty handed and settled on the Canon PowerShot SD1000. It was cheaper than the A720 IS and not as manually controllable. However, it is highly efficient and manual enough to let me have a fair amount of control over the final image.

Image quality is decent enough and I’m not expecting anything more than a simple point and shoot that I can photograph whatever with. Owning this camera will also lengthen the life of my SLR as it no loner has to actuate on every little annoying thing I want to photograph. I now have a toy camera to shoot the inane with.

Another plus is that being the opposite of a hefty, expensive rig, I can actually draw it out pretty fast from the little belt carrying case and whip out a shot with it. I think having this camera will let my brain settle down on the technical aspects of photography and just have fun taking the bloody picture. I’ll see what my creative juices come up with it, particularly as I recommitt myself to the 365 Flickr project.

So, behold my new Canon PowerShot SD1000 Digital ELPH point and shoot camera! How I wish I had it for New Year’s Eve.

11pm-ish — I’m recomittng myself to the 365 Days Project on Flickr. I hope I follow through this time.
