The Music of Jason R. Johnston

I am a pianist, drummer and vocalist and I work almost exclusively with Garageband and a little MIDI controller on a Mac Mini. I say “almost” because my first album was made with Soundtrack on a G4 Mac Pro some years ago.

Here And Far Away (Summer, 2008)

My second album. I’ve grown as a musician and a composer and I’ve gotten far, far better at producing my own material. Here And Far Away represents about three years of my life where I loved, suffered and grew as a human being; even the parts of me that died away are here in various forms. Where my previous album was electronic house music, though I’m still producing in a synthesized landscape, the tonality of Here And Far Away is much more organic and melancholy. “Pretty” would be the wrong word to fully describe what I’m trying to accomplish here, but it will do. I also plan to sing on this one.

“Here And Far Away” is due out this summer, around July for my 29th birthday, and hopefully on iTunes.

In Your Face And Out of Time (2005)

Way back in 2005 I created a music album full of little tunes I threw together in Apple Soundtrack. Revisiting the store where I kept it I was kinda amazed at how nice some of the tunes sounded. I called it “In Your Face And Out of Time” and all except three songs were made completely using loops in Soundtrack.

The other three songs were recorded onto a little Yamaha keyboard (one of them even uses backing from one of the keyboard’s song styles). It’s kind of a neat little album, and I encourage you to click here and check it out if you’re interested in indie electronica.
